Podcast 58: ZEITGEIST – Secret History of Jesus, 9/11 Mysteries, False Flag Follies

ZEITGEIST (2007) is a phenomenon. It is a meandering, globe-spanning, time-trotting epic of free association and paranoia. Here we have the “real truth” behind Jesus Christ, Pearl Harbor, Vietnam, 9/11, the military-industrial complex, the banking industry… Pretty much everything.

Join us as we discuss Peter Joseph’s overstuffed opus ZEITGEIST.

Where to start?  Well, first of all we need to define the term zeitgeist.  Basically, it means the general intellectual, moral, and cultural climate of an era.  In other words, the spirit of the time.  In Peter Joseph’s hands, it’s used as a catch-all to define where we are currently, how we got here and, more importantly, the awakening that needs to happen to move us forward.

It’s a grand vision about ancient sun gods and the astrological roots of Christianity, the culture of deceit and manipulation that’s been in place since before the founding of Rome, the evils of the military-industrial complex and the alleged false flag operations that led us into World War II, Vietnam, and Iraq… in short, it’s about how we’ve been lied to for millennia, maybe longer.

This is a big, juicy burger of conspiracy and paranoia. It’s all here.

Documentary Zeitgeist: The Movie, authored by Peter Joseph, reflects on the the myth of Jesus, the attacks of 9/11, and the Federal Reserve Bank as well as on a number of conspiracy theories related to those three main topics. It was released free online via Google Video in June 2007. A remastered version was presented as a global premiere on November 10, 2007 at the 4th Annual Artivist Film Festival & Artivist Awards. The film has attracted significant public interest.

Well… John has a soft spot for this piece, as its sources and ideas harken back to the 90s and his early days researching astro-theology and the Christ myth.  He admits the research – or at least the execution – is a bit sloppy, but there’s a lot of good stuff in here.

Adam found the film sort-of-intriguing, but was worn down by his constant need to fact check its steady stream of unsourced proclamations.

Overall, and despite its flaws, the film does a pretty good job of making the case that we’ve been lied to by our religious and government institutions about a great many things.  Many of these lies encompass the biggest myths that define our civilization and, more importantly, who we are.  If these myths crumble, what becomes of our civilization?  Is this a disintegration or an awakening?  Maybe it’s both.  As Joseph says in a tagline to the film: It’s One World… One Family… It’s Time to Grow Up.

John: 3.5/5
Adam: 3/5
